Rhys Healey will be sidelined for nine months after undergoing surgery for a knee injury.

The Cardiff striker tore his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments during the first half of their 5-0 victory over Rotherham on Saturday.

The 22-year-old was stretchered off the field needing oxygen, after falling awkwardly.

Healey had only just returned from a loan spell at Newport County, having also been at Dundee and Colchester.

Bluebirds' boss Neil Warnock said: "It soured everything really.

"He's done so well for us, given us a new lease of life. His winner against Burton and getting the penalty against Derby the other night.

"To miss out on a nothing injury. I think his studs caught in the turf and it's a crying shame for the young lad."
