Chris Samba is training with Aston Villa in a bid to win a short-term contract with Steve Bruce's Championship side, Sky sources understand.
The former QPR and Blackburn defender is currently without a club after being released by Greek side Panathinaikos.
Villa are on a winless run which stretches back to Boxing Day and Bruce is keen to bolster his back-line which has conceded 13 goals in their last six games.
Samba joined Panathinaikos from Dynamo Moscow in August but made just two appearances for the Athens side in the Superleague.
The 32-year-old recently had a trial at Crystal Palace but failed to win a contract with Sam Allardyce's side despite previously playing under him for two years at Ewood Park.
