Nottingham Forest loanee Ross McCormack will not play again this season after he underwent surgery to remove five cysts from his jaw, Sky sources understand.

The 30-year-old striker had the operation a fortnight ago, but he hasn't trained for three weeks, because of an ongoing achilles injury.

An operation became necessary when the cysts grew after he developed an infection in his mouth.

The Scotland international joined Forest on loan in the winter window until the end of the season after a dispute with manager Steve Bruce.

McCormack failed to make it in for training, blaming problems with his electric gates at home and prompting Bruce to go to the forward's home to see the gates for himself.

The Villa boss was furious the striker had used that as a reason to skip training and McCormack exited on loan soon after.
