Aston Villa's Scott Hogan was in the wrong place at the wrong time to clear a goal-bound strike from his team-mate Conor Hourihane off the line against Middlesbrough.

Hourihane's close-range strike cannoned off Hogan and away to safety as the Villa midfielder tried desperately to move his body out of the way of his team-mate's shot, as his side laboured to a goalless draw against Boro at Villa Park.

Both sides were reduced to ten men, Middlesbrough as early as the fourth minute when Adama Traore saw red, with Villa's Henri Lansbury also dismissed for a professional foul 25 minutes from the end.

The result leaves Steve Bruce's Villa languishing in 18th, three points above the relegation zone, while Middlesbrough are 9th.
