Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is ready to move into the transfer market for a new goalkeeper, with regular first choice Matt Murray having been struck by injury.
The highly-rated 26-year-old is to undergo exploratory surgery on a troublesome knee complaint and it is expected he will be sidelined for around three weeks.
Wayne Hennessey is expected to come in for Saturday's Championship opener against Watford but McCarthy is eager to bring in experienced cover.
"Wayne Hennessey has been fantastic but he is the only fit body we have got," said McCarthy.
"So now we have got to look for somebody."
Meanwhile, in other news, Gary Breen has succeeded Jody Craddock as the club's new captain.
The experienced stopper will help nurture Wolves' considerable young stable of talent.
"To be truthful, the squad we have here is self-motivating so there is not much need for ranting and raving on the pitch," he said.
"We have a very young squad though and if they ever need any advice or encouragement from me they will get it."
