Norwich City fought back from two goals down to claim a point against local rivals Ipswich Town in the East Anglia derby.

Ipswich were in control at half-time thanks to goals from Alan Lee and Pablo Counago, but an Owen Garvan own goal and Jamie Cureton strike rescued an unlikely point.

Glenn Roeder's side made a bright start to the contest and only a brilliant save by Neil Alexander kept out Dion Dublin's header from Cureton's right-wing cross.

Alexander was again called into action to block Cureton's snap-shot on 15 minutes, while at the other end Garvan's drive was well blocked by David Marshall.

Shortly after Dublin had guided Darren Huckerby's cross wide, the visitors forged ahead thanks to Lee's fine finish from Counago's perfectly-weighted pass.

Wasteful

Norwich continued to create chances although Cureton was particularly wasteful for the home side as things went from bad to worse for The Canaries.

Ipswich doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Billy Clarke hooked the ball back in play for Counago, to tap home after Marshall saved his initial effort.

The home side came out with renewed hope after half-time and pulled one back when Garvan inadvertently diverted Simon Lippin's corner into his own net.

Cureton went from villain to hero on 67 minutes when he latched onto substitute John Hartson's flick-on, before finishing his toughest chance of the game with a deft flick inside the far post.

Danny Haynes could, and should, have won it for the visitors, but Marshall made a fine point-blank save that resulted in the ball landing on his own crossbar.

The game ended on a sour note for Norwich after Darren Huckerby was dismissed by referee Rob Styles for an unnecessarily high tackle on Jonathan Walters.
