Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison has admitted his delight at finally beginning new contract discussions at Selhurst Park.
Talks have stalled between Morrison and Palace over recent months and the forward could leave the club for nothing when his current deal expires.
But Morrison - who has hit 14 goals for Palace this season - has revealed his agent has now made contact with the club.
"My agent spoke to them the other day and talks are still ongoing, but at least they have finally started to happen," Morrison told the Croydon Guardian.
"I'm happy to talk and I'm glad Palace have started to talk to me about the contract and hopefully we'll get it sorted out soon."
Morrison, though, does not want to get involved with the talks himself because he wants to help Palace, who sit eighth in the Championship, in their play-off push.
"I'll let my agents sort that out and then we will decide at the end of the season what is the best thing for me to do," Morrison continued. "If the talks go well then obviously I'm going to sign at Palace.
"We're off for a month-and-a-half in the summer so we can sort out the contract then. My main aim now is just to get Palace to the play-offs and to get us up to where we should be."
And Morrison feels Palace's home form could hold the key to cementing a place in the top six.
"There's six games to go and if we win four out of the six I think we've got a great chance," Morrison added.
"You have to win your home games if you want to compete. If we don't get three points at home, then basically that's it, we've blown it.
"With six games to go we don't want our season to fizzle out, we know we've still got a chance so we just have to keep going."
