Preston boss dismisses link with Celtic striker

Preston manager Alan Irvine has rubbished claims he is lining up a deal to bring Celtic striker Derek Riordan to Deepdale. The 25-year-old has struggled for first-team opportunities since leaving Hibernian for Celtic in the summer of 2006. Riordan has also been linked with Preston's Lancashire rivals Burnley, but Irvine has denied any interest. "I have no idea where that story has come from because it isn't true," he told the Lancashire Evening Post.

No truth

"It said in one paper I was putting a package together for Riordan. I know absolutely nothing about that. "It amazes me that this sort of stuff can be written when there is no truth in it."
