On-loan striker Steve Jones has revealed he is aiming to get back in the Burnley side before ending his career at Crewe.
The 31-year-old spent five seasons at Crewe before moving to Burnley in July 2006 on a free transfer.
But injury meant he has struggled to break into the Clarets' first team this season, making only two league starts, before he was allowed to return on loan to Crewe last month until the end of the season.
But another injury has meant his second spell at the Alexandra Stadium has been confined to just one start in last month's defeat at Luton, although he returned to make a 90th minute substitute's appearance in the win over Cheltenham last weekend.
He now wants to feature in the Railwaymen's relegation fight before returning to Burnley next season, and then hopefully finishing his career at Crewe.
Another year
He told
The Sentinel: "I have another year left on my contract at Burnley and Owen Coyle wants me back at the start of next season.
"I was unlucky to be out for three months with a knee injury, so I will see how it goes and see if I can force my way back.
"I have another three years of football left in me, but you never know what is around the corner. He (Coyle) might have a rethink and bring his own players in.
"But I'd still like to finish my career at Crewe as I started here if I can go on to 35 or 36, injury permitting."
Jones is likely to be on the bench again for the relegation clash against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Safe
Crewe sit five points above the League One drop zone and a win against the third-from-bottom side will see them safe.
Speaking of his most recent injury, Jones added: "I was on the Astroturf running for a ball and my back went into a spasm.
"I keep getting niggle after niggle this season, which is disappointing because throughout my career I have never been out for more than two weeks.
"But I came through 90 minutes of a reserve game on Tuesday and I hope I can play my part now.
"The boys got a great result last weekend and now we need to finish the job."
