Shrimpers boss keen to sign a striker

Southend United manager Steve Tilson is considering a permanent bid for Leon Clarke as he looks to sign a striker. Clarke scored eight goals in 16 games for Southend last season during a loan spell from Sheffield Wednesday. The 23-year-old struggled to make an impression with the Owls and started just two games in the Championship for Brian Laws' side. He could be allowed to leave Hillsborough over the summer and Tilson has suggested Clarke is an option he is weighing up. "At the end of the day I'm not going to rule anything out with Leon," Tilson told the Southend Echo. "I haven't spoken with Leon since the end of the season, but we need to bring in a striker and I've made no secret of that. "Nothing is happening just yet, this is always a very quiet time of year, but we know who we want and will do our best to bring them in."
