Burnley boss Owen Coyle will look elsewhere for new signings after Alan Gow turned down a move to Turf Moor.
The Championship club had agreed a deal to sell Kyle Lafferty to Rangers and take Gow in part exchange.
But talks with the forward have failed to reach a successful conclusion after Gow decided to fight for his place at Ibrox.
Lafferty has completed a £3million-plus move to Rangers and Coyle will now step up his quest to find a replacement.
"We have ended our interest in Alan and will now concentrate on our other targets," the Burnley manager told the club's official website.
"This remains a fantastic deal for Burnley Football Club and we wish Kyle all the best in his future career."
Gow made just two appearances for Rangers last season, but is determined to prove he can be a success with Walter Smith's side.
