Carlisle owner Fred Story insists Nottingham Forest target Joe Garner will only be sold in 'the best interests of the club'.
Forest boss Colin Calderwood recently admitted an interest in the striker as he prepares his side for next season in the Championship.
And there have been fears at Brunton Park that 20-year-old Garner could be sold for Story's personal profit following rumours about the motives behind the departure of Keiren Westwood to Coventry in May.
Story insists that he is not looking to sell Story but admits that, if it is beneficial to Carlisle, he could be willing to listen to offers.
"I know a lot of our supporters have been dismayed by recent speculation about the sale of Joe Garner," Story told Carlisle's official website.
"It was extremely unfortunate that news of Nottingham Forest's inquiry about Joe, which was at a very early stage, came out at the Nottingham Forest end for whatever reason.
"Joe remains a Carlisle player, under contract to us for another two years, and we will only transfer him if it is in the best interests of the club.
"If Joe or any other player was to leave Carlisle at any stage while I am owner, I can assure fans that the money received will remain in the club to be spent in the best way.
"No part of any transfer fee received by Carlisle will go to me."
