Paul McKenna is targeting promotion to the Premier League after signing a new contract at Preston North End.
The midfielder has spent his entire career at Deepdale and has agreed a two-year extension to tie him to the club until 2011.
The club captain has in excess of 400 appearances under his belt and is now keen to play top-flight football with Preston.
"I wouldn't have signed if I didn't want to stay," McKenna told the club's official website.
"I've lived not far from here all my life, and another three years means I've been at Preston for the majority of my life and will definitely be with Preston North End now.
"It's quite an exciting time to be here at the minute. I want to stay here because I can see things happening, and the manager has played a big part in that.
"There's been a bit of uncertainty over the last few months because I've been coming towards the end of my contract, so it's nice to know what I'm doing now and I can get my head down and start playing football.
"It would obviously be nice for me to play out the latter days of my career playing for Preston in the Premier League. That would be the icing on the cake for me, and I think the club's now going the right way to achieve that after the disappointment of last year."
