Coventry City manager Chris Coleman is confident Clinton Morrison will join the Sky Blues in the next 24 hours.
The former Birmingham City striker is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Crystal Palace in the summer.
Morrison has spent much of pre-season with Coventry and now Coleman is hoping to resolve the striker's future.
The 29-year-old bagged 17 Championship goals last term and Coleman wants more of the same this time around.
"Fingers crossed Clinton will put pen-to-paper to agree to be with us," Coleman told Sky Sports News.
"He's trained with us this morning (Thursday). He's looked good and he's looked sharp. So hopefully that'll put an end to that.
"He scored 17 league goals last season. He knows where the net is.
"He demands from his team-mates. He's a winner. He's outspoken, but he's got a great desire for football.
"I've known him a long time and I think he'll be a great signing for us."
Meanwhile, Coleman has called on wantaway striker Michael Mifsud to clarify his future after seeing a move to Bristol City collapse.
The Malta international still has 12 months to run on his Sky Blues deal and Coleman is hoping the 27-year-old will stay at the Ricoh Arena next season.
"He needs to explain the future and his relationship with the club and its fans. We need transparency and we are not getting it," Coleman continued.
"It is no use him saying he will give 100 per cent for the club because that is the minimum I expect of any player.
"He said he wanted to go and now his move has fallen through and we need to know what the situation is. If he doesn't want to be here then I don't want him in and around the squad.
"We never wanted Michael to go. He has 12 months left on his contract here but we are still waiting to hear from him and his representatives."
