Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has backed Kevin Phillips to build on his debut strike for the club.
Phillips came off the bench to score the winner in Saturday's 1-0 success over Sheffield United on the opening day of the Championship season.
McLeish admits he was not surprised to see Phillips net the winner and he believes there is plenty to come from the veteran forward.
"It was no surprise that Kevin Phillips ended up as the only scorer in the game as he does it so well," McLeish told Sky Sports News.
"We knew what we were getting when we got Kevin and I am sure there is a lot more of that to come from him.
"I think we showed at the weekend we are up for the challenge of this Championship."
