Naylor happy with Hoops

Lee Naylor insists the summer speculation surrounding his future has not affected his focus.

Full-back never wanted to leave

Lee Naylor insists the summer speculation surrounding his future has not affected his focus. The Celtic full-back was strongly linked with a return to Wolves, the club he began his career with back in 1997. However, a switch to the Championship outfit never materialised and Naylor remains a key part of Gordon Strachan's squad at Parkhead. The 28-year-old claims he was never looking for a move and is delighted to still be a part of the Bhoys set-up. "I'm comfortable at the club and you can rest assured it (speculation) did not stop me from enjoying my summer break," Naylor told the Sunday Mirror. Naylor is currently preparing for a crunch UEFA Champions League clash with Villarreal on Tuesday, with Celtic searching for a cure to their European travel sickness.

Struggle

The Hoops have taken just one point from 15 matches on their travels in Europe's premier club competition and know they face another stern test of their credentials during a midweek trip to Spain. Their domestic form heading into the contest is promising, but Naylor knows Strachan's men will need to be at their best against the Yellow Submarines. "We have been playing well, producing good stuff and scoring tremendous goals - but it will be a lot harder in the Champions League," he added. "I feel the squad is better than at any previous time while I have been at the club and we now have the competition for places you need at this level. "I know it's been a struggle away from home in the past and we have to improve that - but I can honestly say that is not something I think about. "You just have to glance at Villarreal's results at home in Europe to see that they are quality. We will have to be at our best to get something."
