Jamal Campbell-Ryce has urged the media to give Barnsley's teenage sensation Reuben Noble-Lazarus some space.
The 15-year-old has been thrust into the limelight recently after manager Simon Davey handed the striker his Football League debut.
However, Campbell-Ryce does not want too much pressure exerting on the youngster's shoulders too early as it could stifle his development.
The former Southend winger believes Davey has taken the right approach to protecting Noble-Lazarus by giving him a couple of tasters of professional football off the bench.
Still in school
"He's still only 15, the media can't jump on him. He's got a long, long way to go - he's still in school," said Campbell-Ryce.
"He's obviously got the ability, but what the gaffer has done is break him in gently by giving him a little taster here and there.
"Over the next couple of years let's just hope he can build on what he has. With his ability and potential, he has a great chance."
