Doncaster look for replacement for striker

Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of Darren Byfield from Doncaster Rovers on a month's loan. Skysports.com revealed earlier in the week that the Latics had lined up a move for Byfield after Brett Ormerod was forced to return to Preston North End due to injury. Byfield has now finalised his switch to Boundary Park and will go straight into John Sheridan's squad for Saturday's League One game at Northampton Town. The 32-year-old has struggled for regular football since joining Doncaster from Bristol City in the summer and has started only three Championship matches.

Gamble

Meanwhile, Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll has confirmed he is trying to sign a striker on loan from a rival Championship club, but is concerned about the cost. O'Driscoll told the club's official website: "We are about as close as we've come to getting somebody in. "But it is an awful lot of money and, at present, we are still are still deciding if - financially - it is worth the gamble. That's even before we go down the line of whether the player would like to come here. "The player is from another Championship club and that gives you problems, because we are obviously in the same league. We'll see where that develops."
