Midfielder rejects chance to extend loan at Carlisle
Chris Birchall has rejected the chance to stay at Carlisle United in favour of a move to America.
The Coventry City midfielder joined Carlisle on loan in November and has made two substitute appearances for the League One club.
Carlisle had agreed a deal with Coventry to keep the Trinidad & Tobago international at Brunton Park for the rest of the season.
However, Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott has confirmed that the 24-year-old has opted to accept a deal to play in the United States.
Abbott told the club's official website: "We couldn't compete with the deal that he has been offered over in America, so we have to accept that he is moving on.
"We wanted to bring him in on a permanent deal and try to get the best out of him, but that hasn't happened for us.
"He has been offered a package that is terrific for him and his family over there and he decided to go down that route. It goes without saying that we wish him all the best."
