Midfielder shows up well on trial

Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Chris Birchall from Coventry City on a deal until the end of the season. Birchall has spent the past fortnight training with Brighton after rejecting the chance to extend his loan at Carlisle United. The Trinidad & Tobago midfielder has shown enough to earn a move to the Withdean Stadium and could be in the squad for Saturday's game against Leeds United. Seagulls boss Micky Adams worked with Birchall at Coventry and is confident the player will be an asset to the League One club. "After the last couple of weeks we feel Chris has earned an opportunity to show us he deserves a longer-term contract," Adams told the club's official website. "Once he's fully fit we're sure he'll be a real asset to the squad
