Latics front-man moves to Bloomfield Road

Oldham striker Lee Hughes has moved to Championship strugglers Blackpool in a loan deal until the end of the season. The veteran front-man tops the scoring charts at Boundary Park with 18 goals but has nonetheless been allowed to move on. With Oldham still in with an outside chance of making the play-offs the move may come as a surprise to some supporters. However, with Hughes out of contract in the summer, Latics boss Joe Royle has spoken of a desire to look at options more likely to still be at the club next term. "I know what Lee can do and I want to give the younger players a chance," he told the club's official website. "I suspect Deane Smalley is better employed up front and I want to see more of Steven Kabba. "It is unlikely Lee will be here next season as we cannot afford him.".
