Jon Stead insists that new Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane has a 'hard but fair' approach to management.
The 26-year-old should know after the pair worked together for a short time at Sunderland before Keane allowed the striker to move on.
The former Blackburn frontman decided to move up to the Premier League, the Black Cats were then in the Championship, and join Sheffield United for a fee of £750,000 in January 2007.
But despite Keane letting Stead leave the Stadium of Light he insists that he was pleased that their paths have crossed again.
"I don't think Roy has changed," Stead, who scored and assisted two in Keane's first game in charge to seal a 3-0 win at Cardiff on Saturday, pointed out.
Observation
"He's the same around the training ground. He's a clever man, he sits, watches, observes and that's how he comes to his conclusions.
"And if he feels he needs to make an input there's no stopping him.
"I've been speaking a lot to the people at Sunderland because there's been mixed messages from the players up there.
"But those still at the club know what Roy can do and how he helped them. I'm not disappointed he's come here, I'm really happy.
"A few of the players have asked me what he's like. He's hard but fair. You want a manager to be straight talking, not beating around the bush.
"You've got to do it day in and day out for him but you know exactly where you stand. That's all you can ask."
