Gillingham goalkeeper Simon Royce admits he is a long way off agreeing a new contract at Priestfield.
Royce has been offered a new one-year deal by the Gills, but is not happy with the terms which are on the table.
The 37-year-old has no plans to retire and is concerned about whether he will be able to reach agreement on a new deal.
"It's not quite what I'm after at the moment and so we're still in negotiations," he told KentOnline. "I've got a family and things I've got to pay for. I can understand a little where they are coming from, but at the moment we're miles apart.
"I'm not ready to quit. It would be hard to leave and I want to stay, but something might have to happen to get what I want.
"I haven't rejected the offer, but I'm just going to have a breather as it has been a long season. I'll have to have a chat with my family and think about it."
Meanwhile, Gills boss Mark Stimson has played down reports that he is looking to sign Peterborough United defender Shane Blackett.
Stimson told KentNews: "A list came round from Peterborough and there were about 12 names on it. There were one or two I enquired about, but they want transfer fees and unfortunately I don't know if we're able to get involved in that.
"He (Blackett) was a name I mentioned, I've known the kid a long while, but we've got a fantastic left centre-half already, so there would be no reason to look at another one."
