Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has ruled out a move for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink as he looks to bring in a target man.
Vennegoor of Hesselink had been mooted as a target for the Robins after he was released by new Celtic boss Tony Mowbray.
The 30-year-old does not want to return to his native Holland after being linked with PSV Eindhoven, however Ashton Gate is also not an option.
Johnson acknowledged that, even if he had shown an interest in Vennegoor of Hesselink, he would struggle to meet the forward's wage demands.
"We couldn't fit his name on the back of the shirt, so we couldn't do that one!" Johnson told the club's official website.
"The lad is a free agent, but he's also played at a high level and has made big money doing that. He'd have to take a three-quarter wage drop to come here.
"The newspaper reports were the first we'd heard about any interest. There's nothing in that one at all, he wasn't on our radar."
However, the City chief confirmed he is keen to add a greater physical presence to his front line and has options to consider.
He added: "It's probably the one club we haven't got in our bag, although we have John Akinde who can offer presence and pace.
"We're hoping John can do it, but we're looking anyway. We've got interest out there on a couple of players."
