Cardiff City have revealed that Stephen McPhail has been diagnosed with cancer.

Cardiff City have revealed that Stephen McPhail has been diagnosed with cancer. The Republic of Ireland international has been disgnosed with Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) Lymphoma. McPhail, who was already due to be out until the New Year after undergoing surgery on his thigh, will have treatment for the cancer in the coming weeks. Cardiff say that he should be back ready to play football in January. A statement said: "Treatment is expected to last for three weeks with a return to playing football by January, 2010. "The club requests that the privacy of Stephen, his wife and young family be respected during his recovery."
