Town boss praises determined players

Ipswich manager Roy Keane is happy with the competition for places at Portman Road. A number of Tractor Boys players are coming into form as Ipswich look to move away from the relegation zone in the Championship. Town's game against Scunthorpe at the weekend fell victim to the weather but they will have the chance to extend their 10-game unbeaten run when they travel to Crystal Palace on Boxing Day. One player who has played his way back into contention at Portman Road is striker Jon Stead and Keane admitted the team is beginning to pick itself. "I think the players can pick the team themselves," he said. "Jon, for instance, has made it very difficult for me to leave him out, after scoring last week. "That's what I want all the players to do, especially now we're missing a few through suspension and others are coming back from injury. "Trust me, there's good competition for places here and that's very pleasing for a manager." Stead was rumoured to be on the verge of leaving Ipswich earlier in the season but has won his place in the side back and scored a fantastic long-range goal in Town's last game against Blackpool.
