Silkmen striker set to feature for Derby's reserves

Macclesfield Town have allowed teenage striker John Rooney to link up with Derby County on a week-long trial. Rooney, younger brother of Manchester United and England star Wayne, has scored four goals in 38 appearances during his Macclesfield career. He has attracted interest from Derby and is expected to feature for the Championship club's reserves against Sheffield United in midweek. "He's gone to train with them for a few days for them to have a look at him and play him in a reserve game," Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander told the club's official website. "He could well be back for the weekend game, but it's only fair on the lad to let him take an opportunity like this to train, and try and prove himself at a higher level." The trial at Derby means the 19-year-old is likely to miss Macclesfield's game against fellow strugglers Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.
