Derby manager Nigel Clough wants to keep defender Russell Anderson at Pride Park beyond the end of the season.
The 17th-placed Rams have stretched an unbeaten run in the Championship to four games and the in-form 31-year-old has played a key part in helping the club move six points clear of the relegation zone.
Clough has been impressed with Anderson since his January arrival on a short-term deal, which expires in the summer, and is interested in offering the former Sunderland man an extension.
The Rams boss told his club's official website: "We've been delighted with Russell ever since he arrived, he's the type of player and character you want around in the Championship.
"He's had to wait for his chance, but he's taken it and if he continues playing as he has been he will keep his place at least until the end of the season.
"As soon as we establish ourselves in the Championship next season we can look to make decisions. He's solid, reliable, trains hard and we've not had a minutes trouble with him.
"If you could have 16 professionals like Russell in your squad, you would. He doesn't moan, he does his job and he's a terrific professional."
