Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins is optimistic the club can keep leading scorer Gary Hooper at Glanford Park next season.
Hooper has weighed in with 17 goals for the Iron this term and has averaged a goal every two appearances since his 2008 arrival from Southend United.
Queens Park Rangers showed an interest last summer, while Bristol City were linked with a £1.5million bid for the striker in January.
The 22-year-old, who fired a hat-trick against City at the weekend, has a further 12 months remaining on his contract and Adkins hopes Hooper will stay.
Smile on his face
"Everyone was linked with him in January and we managed to keep him at the football club," Adkins told Sky Sports News.
"He is still with us now and he has got another year left on his contract.
"He has a smile on his face, he works hard as part of the group and everything is great.
"You wouldn't know he had been linked and there had been speculation, as there will be with a lot of players at football clubs around the country, especially the goalscorers.
"We try and give them a platform to learn and to show their skills, and we are going to do everything we can to keep our players at our football club.
"The financial situation happens everywhere and we try and do the best for our football club, likewise we try and do the best for the players as well."
