Jonas Olsson is relishing the increased competition for a place in the West Brom defence next season following the signing of Pablo Ibanez.
Spanish defender Ibanez completed his free transfer move to The Hawthorns on Wednesday night and will be looking to force his way into the first-choice back-line for the 2010/11 Premier League campaign.
Olsson, who was making his debut for Sweden while the deal for Ibanez was being finalised, was a fixture in the West Brom defence last season as the club secured a return to the top flight.
The 27-year-old is not fearing for his place in Roberto Di Matteo's side following the capture of Ibanez and believes the competition will benefit the Baggies.
He told the Express and Star: "They bought a Spaniard and he is so clearly a great signing. It is always good to have competition.
"Competition raises everyone because you have to fight for your place. But I feel I have a strong role in the team.
"I was vice-captain this year and played almost all the games. I feel safe in that role."
