Former Boro boss not taking Fratton Park link seriously

Gareth Southgate is aware of reports linking him with Portsmouth, but claims he is not taking them seriously. Pompey are looking to get a new manager in place as soon as possible, having seen Avram Grant leave for West Ham. Numerous names have been offered as potential candidates, with former Middlesbrough boss Southgate among them. He has been out of work since leaving Boro in October 2009, but has expressed a desire to return to coaching in the near future. Southgate is, however, prepared to wait for the right offer to come along and has hinted that financially-crippled Portsmouth would not be of interest to him. "I have been told that my name was mentioned in the papers regarding the Portsmouth job, but I am not taking it too seriously," he said in the Daily Star. "Obviously I will look at any job offer on its individual merits, but we will have to wait and see."
