Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is keen to extend the loan deal of Southampton full-back Joseph Mills.
The 21-year-old has made four appearances since joining the Championship club on an emergency month's loan last month.
Rovers are still short on options at the back due to injuries and O'Driscoll will discuss a loan extension with the Saints.
O'Driscoll told The Star: "If there is an opportunity to keep him here a bit longer, we'll try and do it. But he's Southampton's player and it depends on what they want to do.
"George Friend is still not fit so if Southampton recall Joe then we'd have to get another left-back in so it makes sense if we could extend the loan."
Mills, who has previously had a loan spell at Scunthorpe United, is enjoying his time at Doncaster and hopes to remain at the Keepmoat Stadium.
"It is not up to me; it is up to the two managers," said Mills.
"I'm just waiting to see what happens. If the manager at Southampton is happy to let me stay here, and I'm still playing, I'd like to stay on.
"At my age, and at this stage of my career, I need to be playing competitive football and Doncaster are offering that and I am really happy here."
