Coventry City midfielder Carl Baker could be available for Saturday's game against Norwich City just a week after undergoing hernia surgery.
Baker had the operation in Germany last week and Sky Blues boss Aidy Boothroyd is delighted by the speed of the 27-year-old's recovery.
Boothroyd has praised the club's board for allowing Baker to be treated by world-renowned doctor Ulrike Muschaweck and hopes to call on the player for the visit of promotion rivals Norwich.
"It's touch and go for Carl (for this weekend), but the fact that we're even considering it is unbelievable really," Boothroyd told the Coventry Telegraph.
"Hernias can be very tricky - Danny Ward had his operation over two months ago and he's still not quite right.
"But the German lady seems to think Carl should be available for selection on Saturday and as she's the best there is and has done the operation thousands of times, it's looking very promising."
He added: "I'm not stupid - I know where we are compared to a lot of other Championship clubs - but I have to say that every time I've asked the board for something I've got it.
"And the fact they are willing to do that, to pay for things like this, shows that the support isn't just from the fans it's from everybody in the club."
