Rs midfielder to stick with Loftus Road side

QPR midfielder Gavin Mahon has been handed a one-month extension to his current deal at the club. The 34-year-old veteran was released by the Championship leaders at the end of last season following a serious knee injury and looked to have seen his time come to an end at Loftus Road. However, Mahon worked his way back to fitness and was able to re-sign for the club on a monthly basis in October, with his contract being extended on the same terms since. Mahon, who has 457 career appearances at clubs such as Wolves, Watford and Brentford, is still sidelined by a hamstring injury and has yet to feature for the Rs. Manager Neil Warnock praised the player, stating that he was adding to competition for places within the squad as they push for promotion back to the Premier League. "Gavin is a good pro and I'm pleased we've managed to extend his contract by a further month," said Warnock. "He's an important member of the squad, who I believe has been instrumental in (regular holding midfielder) Shaun Derry having such a good season, with the knowledge that Gavin is waiting in the wings."
