Scunthorpe United's influential midfielder Michael O'Connor is closing in on a first-team return after almost two months out through injury.
The Northern Ireland international has been sidelined since the Iron's 5-1 defeat to Everton in the FA Cup third round due to a knee injury.
However, with the Iron looking to avoid relegation from the Championship, the 23-year-old has revealed he is desperate to return to action as soon as possible.
"It is getting better and I've been out six or seven weeks now, but I' still a week or so away from coming back," O'Connor told skysports.com.
"I've been doing some hard running for the past few weeks, which has been great, but it was still a little sore when I kicked the ball.
"I could feel it in the knee joint when I connected with the ball, so it was important not to rush things and make sure that I didn't make it worse.
"I'm building my fitness up at the minute and strengthening the knee, but I'm not too far away from being able to play again, which I am looking forward to.
"It wasn't too bad for the first few games, but the more games you watch the more you want to play.
"Every player wants to help their team-mates, especially when they aren't in the best of form, but all I can do is get my head down and get back as soon as possible."
