Former Blackburn striker is surplus to requirements at Forest

Skysports.com understands Watford are lining up a move for Nottingham Forest striker Joe Garner. The 23-year-old striker spent the whole of last season out on loan during spells with Huddersfield and Scunthorpe. He spent the first half of last season at Huddersfield but he failed to find his best form at the Galpharm Stadium, and later joined Scunthorpe in the January transfer window until the end of the campaign.

Profitable

He enjoyed a profitable end of the term there as he scored six goals in 14 appearances for the Iron but was unable to prevent them being relegated to League One. Having returned to the City Ground this year he has again found his first-team chances limited. Garner's present contract expires next summer and has made four appearances for Forest this term under new boss Steve McClaren. Watford believe they can give him an opportunity to kick-start his career which blossomed at Carlisle prior to joining Forest. The Hornets lost Danny Graham to Premier League new boys Swansea in the summer and are looking for someone to provide the goals that will keep them competitive in the Championship.
