Midfielder swayed by Houston's decision to watch FAI Cup final

Dundee United new boy Richie Ryan has revealed he had the offer of a trial at Peterborough United before accepting a move to Tannadice. Ryan has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract to join the Terrors on a free transfer from Sligo Rovers after manager Peter Houston watched the midfielder in the FAI Cup final against Shelbourne. Championship club Peterborough were also interested in the former Sunderland youngster, but the 26-year-old is confident he has made the right decision in moving to the SPL. "I didn't know anything about United's interest until after the Cup final in November," said Ryan in the Daily Record. "The manager had come over to watch the match and he liked what he saw. "I had the chance to go to Peterborough for a trial but that was all it was. I felt the fact that the manager here had made the effort to come to Dublin meant I would have a better chance with him. "It meant a lot to me that he did that. It showed me he was really keen on me. "If I'd gone to Peterborough I would have been going into it cold because Darren Ferguson had never seen me play. "It was completely different with United so I felt this was the right move for me."
