Hamer Bouazza's first goal since August set the Lions on the road to victory while Andy Keogh found the scoresheet for the third successive match with 20 minutes remaining.
But Kane stole the show late on with a piledriver from 25 yards that eased their relegation fears and delighted Millwall's assistant boss Gallen.
"I would say it is right up there with the best performances we have produced all season," he said.
"We limited Peterborough to very few opportunities while we scored three times ourselves and could have had more.
"We fully deserved to win so well and I'm pleased for the lads and the supporters.
"We know our home form isn't right at the moment, but our away performances are spot-on."
Ferguson
The result leaves Posh sitting just a point ahead of their opponents although they are heading in the other direction.
And boss Darren Ferguson admits his side are in danger of undoing all their hard work at the start of the season and getting dragged into the relegation fight.
"I don't think anyone outside of our dressing room believes we have a prayer of staying up," said Ferguson.
"We realise we face a massive challenge to do that, but it is one we cannot shy away from.
"We are lacking confidence at the moment after a tough run but it is down to me as manager to pick the players up for the big matches ahead. That is what I started to do after the game."
