Boss Sean O'Driscoll had played down the prospect of Jenas rejoining the club, but it is thought talks between Forest and Tottenham are at an advanced stage with Forest hoping to land the midfielder on a three-month emergency loan deal.
Jenas began his career at Forest, coming through the ranks before being sold to Newcastle for £5million in 2002.
The 29-year-old is currently down the pecking order at White Hart Lane and Andre Villas-Boas could be open to loaning out Jenas so that he can get some valuable first-team action under his belt.
Jenas has only made one brief substitute appearance this season and is thought to be keen on a loan move to Forest to get playing again.
Forest are hoping to push through a deal for Jenas in time for the midfielder to be available for Sunday's clash with local rivals Derby.
