The France U21 midfielder Knockaert scored two spectacular goals at the John Smith's Stadium to propel the Foxes into second place in the Championship.
"He is a talent but it's important we don't put too much expectation on him," Pearson said. "We can't afford to build him up to knock him down.
"The two goals were great. He certainly let fly for the first one. He had the breeze behind him but it was a fantastic strike.
"The second one was superb improvisation but you need ability to do that. He is certainly a potential match winner for us but he is still a young player.
"He has shown there is a bit of an edge to him as well and we have to help him control that."
Pearson hailed his head of recruitment, Steve Walsh, for finding Knockaert, saying: "He has done a lot of good work over the years and takes the credit for finding players like Anthony.
"You don't throw a net out and see what comes in, it takes a lot of care. What we have spent shows we get value for money."
Pearson hit back at his early-season critics and said: "There's been some rubbish written about certain aspects of our season so far but the best way to answer that is to keep getting results. We are a tight group."
