Irishman O'Connor has progressed through the Academy ranks at the club since coming over from Cork at the age of 16 and was a regular for the Reserves last season making 16 appearances.
This campaign has seen O'Connor join Burton Albion, initially for a month, but this was quickly extended until the new year after consistent displays at right-back for the Brewers.
"I'm delighted to have secured my future with the club," said the 19-year-old. "It is an ambition of mine to play in the first team.
"Right now I'm really enjoying my time with Burton Albion, it has been a huge learning curve for me. The experience has been great and should serve me well for the future.
"I'm playing every week in a tough league against tough opponents and it should stand me in good stead when I return to Blackburn."
