The Scot finds himself out of work after lasting just 40 days in a position at Nottingham Forest.
His troubles at the City Ground came on the back of a difficult spell at Aston Villa, during which he struggled to win over a sceptical fan base.
McLeish's strong ties to Birmingham City caused him problems at Villa Park, with a spell at St Andrew's seeing him land the League Cup but suffer relegation out of the Premier League.
It has not been an easy time for the former Scotland national team coach, but he claims to be ready to step back into the dugout.
McLeish told The People: "I'll look for work again this summer.
"In the meantime, I will try to get my golf handicap down, do some media work and take in the Masters for the first time."
On his recent troubles, McLeish said: "It's been a challenging two years.
"I didn't want to be out of work, but it was not the right thing for me or Forest and we both quickly accepted that.
"There were too many things that we couldn't agree on. We shook hands and I left amicably."
