Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov is waiting on responses from those identified as top summer transfer targets.

Dickov must remain patient in his recruitment drive as he awaits the outcome of a takeover saga involving John Ryan and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.

He is, however, putting in the groundwork to ensure that deals are there to be done once the green light is given.

Those he would like to bring on board have been made aware of the interest, and Doncaster are now readying themselves for what they hope will be a flurry of positive replies.

I’m not one for announcing names or positions or clubs because I think it can come back and bite you on the bum a little bit.

Dickov, who is looking to piece together a side that can push for an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship in 2014/15, told the Doncaster Free Press: “We’ve got a lot of irons in the fire.

“My staff and I like to keep things under the radar and keep things quiet.

“I’m not one for announcing names or positions or clubs because I think it can come back and bite you on the bum a little bit.

“What we are doing is working ever so hard. Hopefully, before we start back on June 30, we’ll have a few players in place by then.”

He added: “When you’re talking to agents and players, it’s never completely in your control until they’ve signed.

“But what we are doing is identifying targets, as we did all throughout last season, and sitting down and talking to them.

“A lot of players are on holiday so we’ll have to wait for some answers.”
