Federico Macheda says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was key to his decision to join Cardiff City and is determined to repay his faith.
The Italian striker, who is still just 22 years of age, has finally severed ties with Manchester United after seven years on the books at Old Trafford.
Macheda made 19 Premier League appearances for United and netted some memorable goals, but he struggled to hold down a regular role and has spent the last three years taking in loan spells at five different clubs.
Cardiff have offered him the opportunity to put down roots and find his spark, and the former Italy U21 international cannot wait to get going under Solskjaer – a man he first worked alongside during his days in United's academy system.
The gaffer is a striker and he understands us. He gives the forwards a lot of advice. We all know he was a great player and knows where we have to improve.
Macheda said: "I know the gaffer from our time at Old Trafford and he is exactly the same now as he was then.
"After he retired from playing he was always going to be a manager and was exceptionally good for me at United. He was unbelievably supportive to me. It's great to be back with him.

Macheda, who has penned a three-year contract at Cardiff, added on his decision to head for South Wales this summer: "I had a good spell with Birmingham (last season) and Cardiff is a new chapter in my career.
"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was one of the main reasons I came to this club. He played a big part in my decision.
"It's been a good pre-season so far and we are all on course to be absolutely ready for that first match against Blackburn next month.
"Personally, I feel good. I am confident I can do well for Cardiff City."
