Transfer news: Sheffield Wednesday sign Royston Drenthe on loan from Reading

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Royston Drenthe on loan from Reading.

The 27-year-old Dutchman joined the Royals from Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz a year ago and made 24 appearances for the club last season, including 17 starts in the Sky Bet Championship.

He will remain at Hillsborough until January 2 but will not be eligible to face Reading on September 20.

Drenthe started his career in his homeland with Feyenoord before joining Real Madrid as a youngster.

He made only two La Liga appearances from the bench for the Spanish giants and had loan spells with Hercules and Everton before heading to Russia.

Drenthe featured in 21 Premier League games during his time at Goodison Park and scored three goals.
