Bristol City have signed young Aston Villa forward Callum Robinson on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old will be available for the Sky Bet Championship opener at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and becomes manager Steve Cotterill's third signing of the summer after the acquisitions of striker Jonathan Kodjia and wing-back Ryan Fredericks.

"He's the type of player we've been looking to bring in; someone who can play wide left in a three or in one of the striking roles," Cotterill told bcfc.co.uk.

"Callum is a young player who will bring bundles of pace and energy, similar to Ryan.

"He's also brave and has a knack for nicking a goal."

Northampton-born Robinson, an England youth international, has made five substitute appearances for Villa, four of them in the Barclays Premier League.

Robinson spent most of last season on loan at Preston in League One, scoring seven goals in 28 games.

Cotterill, meanwhile, has appointed Aaron Wilbraham as captain for the 2015-16 season.

"I wore the armband a few times last season and really enjoyed it," Wilbraham told Bristol City Player.

"I've been a vice-captain a few times in the past, like I was last season to Wadey (Wade Elliott).

"I think everyone dreams of doing it and to get to at this late stage in my career makes me proud."
