Scott Carson - Wigan Athletic
His side may have suffered a surprising defeat to newly-promoted AFC Bournemouth, but Scott Carson had a fantastic game as Wigan Athletic lost 1-0 at Dean Court. After a couple of good saves early on, the former Leeds and Liverpool goalkeeper couldn't do anything about Lewis Grabban's goal when James Perch played an awful pass back to the England international. In the second half though, Carson made a good save from former Leeds team-mate Ian Harte, before getting down well moments later to save Brett Pitman's penalty.
Romain Vincelot - Leyton Orient
Romain Vincelot had a solid game in Leyton Orient's 1-0 win at Stevenage, with the only goal coming from former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie. Not only did the O's keep an impressive clean sheet, Vincelot made an outstanding goal-line clearance to keep the score at 1-0. After a goalmouth scramble, the Frenchman pulled off an acrobatic overhead kick to get the ball safe and preserve the clean sheet.
Liam Moore - Leicester City
Leicester's Liam Moore took one for the team as he stopped a goal-bound effort from Derby's Paul Coutts with his head. Putting his personal safety out of the window, Moore charged down a powerful shot to keep his side ahead and show what being a defender is all about. Leicester had earlier taken the lead through a comical own goal, when Moore headed a corner to Jamie Vardy, whose flick was cleared off the line by Coutts - straight into the back of County goalkeeper Lee Grant and in.
David Mirfin - Scunthorpe United
After team-mate Chris Iwelumo had missed a penalty and a simple headed chance at 0-0, centre-back David Mirfin must have realised it wasn't a striker's time to shine. With the scoreline still 0-0 after 88 minutes, Mirfin powerfully headed home a corner to put Scunthorpe 1-0 up. Dagenham and Redbridge did manage to equalise, but more through good team play than any defensive frailties from Scunny. Mirfin had a solid game at the back, doing well to put off Medy Elito when he was bearing down on goal.
Ritchie Sutton - Mansfield Town
Ritchie Sutton utilised both his attacking and defensive abilities well in Mansfield's 1-0 away win at Wycombe, earning him a place in Team of the Week. The right-back defended well, most notably when Lee Beevers had given the ball away and Sutton did enough to put Josh Scowen off his shot. The former Port Vale defender also found himself in the thick of the action up front, often making a nuisance of himself to opposing defenders and providing a distraction when Ollie Palmer headed in the winner.
Jason Banton - MK Dons
Preston North End and MK Dons played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, with Dons winger Jason Banton scoring the pick of the goals with a 30-yard stunner. Having previously described himself as "right-footed but I like to play on the left and cut in", the former Liverpool player did exactly that and hit a Ronaldo-esque shot to draw his side level. Ultimately it wasn't enough to spark a winner for his side, but his performance and his goal deserved more than a point.
Conor Hourihane - Plymouth Argyle
Conor Hourihane capped off a good performance with an outstanding goal as Plymouth Argyle won their first game of the season, away to Cheltenham 3-1. Cheltenham hadn't lost at home in 19 regular-season league games prior to Saturday, but captain Hourihane was instrumental as the Pilgrims scored their first goals of the season to cause a shock. The central midfielder provided the penultimate pass for the first goal, before getting on the scoresheet himself with a dipping 25-yard shot that nestled into the bottom corner.
Jed Wallace - Portsmouth
Jed Wallace scored Portsmouth's first goal against Morecambe after 20 minutes, and Pompey never looked back. 20 minutes later, they were cruising to victory with a 3-0 lead. Wallace could have had another one minutes before he opened the scoring, but the 19-year-old's volley flashed across the front of goal. The England Under-19 international was a lively presence for all 90 minutes, causing Morecambe all sorts of problems that they struggled to deal with.
Jem Karacan - Reading
Reading may not have been able to hold on to a 3-1 lead against Watford, eventually drawing 3-3, but Jem Karacan was a huge positive for the Royals. The Turkish midfielder twice found himself in the right place at the right time to give his side 2-0 and 3-1 leads; however, the Berkshire side couldn't hold on. First, Karacan found himself in the middle of a goalmouth scramble and put the ball past Manuel Almunia in the Watford goal at the second attempt. He then beat the former Arsenal goalkeeper again from close range after controlling teammate Nick Blackman's shot and slotting home.
Leon Clarke - Coventry City
Carlisle United's woeful form continued on Saturday with a 4-0 loss at home to Coventry City, with Leon Clarke grabbing a brace to lift the Sky Blues ever closer to zero points. Starting on -10 for entering administration last season, Coventry have now won two in a row, with Clarke registering three goals. His first on Saturday was arguably goal of the weekend, a 20-yard curling effort that flew into the top corner. After being involved in the build-up for his team's second goal, a wonderful chip by Frank Moussa, Clarke then recreated Moussa's effort with a delightful chip of his own, capitalising on a shocking error by Kevin Feely.
John O'Flynn - Exeter City
Two first-half goals by John O'Flynn gave Exeter City a 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon and ensured the Grecians remain unbeaten after three games. O'Flynn took both his goals extremely well, with the first taking a slight deflection after the Irishman's shot from the edge of the box. Whilst his first was mostly his own work, the second was all down to Dave Wheeler. The winger ran the ball 70 yards up the field, before sliding in O'Flynn who finished well first time.
