Everton earned a 1-1 draw against Genk at the Luminus Arena on Saturday, with Wayne Rooney again on the scoresheet.

The summer signing, who netted against Gor Mahia in Tanzania, turned home Sandro Ramirez's cross at the back post to put the Toffees in front.

But their Belgian opposition hit back through Mbwana Samatta, who also forced Maarten Stekelenburg into a remarkable reflex stop as Everton held on to preserve a draw.

Ronald Koeman picked five of his new signings in his starting XI as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Rooney and Sandro all got run-outs.

Brighton continued their preparations for their maiden Premier League season with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Crawley, their second pre-season victory on the spin.

Fresh from their win over Fortress Dusseldorf in Austria, Chris Hughton's men raced into a four-goal half-time lead thanks to strikes from Solly March, Pascal Gross, Tomer Hemed and Jamie Murphy.

Lys Mousset put the Cherries ahead in the first half at Fratton Park only for the impressive Conor Chaplin to fire Pompey level.

Parity was short-lived though as Benik Afobe restored Bournemouth's lead two minutes later with a deft backheel.

Tom Barkhuizen's first-half strike denied Newcastle consecutive pre-season victories as the Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw at Preston.

Aleksandar Mitrovic reacted quickest in the 10th minute to convert a rebound after Paul Dummett's long-range effort was saved.

But Barkhuizen's eight-yard drive in the 33rd minute drew Preston level in manager Alex Neil's first outing at Deepdale.

Andre Gray scored a second-half hat-trick as Burnley twice came from behind to beat non-league Alfreton 3-2 at North Street.

Tom Allan headed Alfreton in front late in the first half but Gray levelled for the Clarets soon after the break following a one-two with Jon Walters.

Alfreton retook the lead through Chris Sharp but it lasted just a couple of minutes before Gray was brought down in the box. The striker dusted himself off to convert from the spot and completed his treble 15 minutes later.

Robbie Brady's first-half free-kick was enough to secure a 1-0 victory at Kidderminster in Burnley's other pre-season friendly.

Sunderland record their fourth win in pre-season this time against Bradford.

Lens was the star performer for the Black Cats as they raced into a 3-0 lead before the break, setting up Maja for the first before scoring the second himself with a sublime chip.

Bradford fought back in the second half, Tony McMahon slotting a penalty before a stoppage-time goal from a trialist, but it was not quite enough.

Middlesbrough slipped to a 2-0 defeat to League One side Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena.

A Daniel Ayala own goal gave Dale the lead and they wrapped up the victory through Ollie Rathbone's late strike.

Niko Kranjcar's free-kick 15 minutes from time earned Rangers a draw in their clash with Marseille at Ibrox.

The Croatian's curled effort into the top corner drew the hosts level after Valere Germain put Marseille in front just past the hour mark.

It was a fine strike from Germain, a summer signing from Monaco, as he volleyed home at the back post from Morgan Sanson's cross.

Huddersfield left it late to beat Barnsley at Oakwell as Steve Mounie scored the winning goal just a minute from time.

Chances were few and far between in South Yorkshire but what chances there were fell to Huddersfield, Joe Lolley having a shot cleared off the line after a good run and Sean Scannell seeing his looping header hit the top of the bar.

In the end, a long ball did the trick as goalkeeper Jonas Lössl punted the ball over the top for Mounie, who latched onto it and lifted the ball over Adam Davies.

Mame Diouf scored the only goal of the game as Stoke won 1-0 at Ligue 1 side Amiens SC.

The 29-year-old Senegalese striker fired in a powerful effort on the stroke of half-time and an uneventful second period ensured that was enough for the victory.
