The speedy youngster has been tipped for inclusion in any deal which would take Clinton Morrison to St Andrews.
Though Birmingham's move for Crystal Palace marksman Morrison has stalled over the Eagles' asking price, Bruce has not completely shut the door on the Irishman.
But there has been fervent speculation that Johnson would have to head for Selhurst Park in part-exchange if the deal is to be resurrected.
Bruce is not keen on losing the 21-year-old and admits he has not even contemplated dangling Johnson as bait to capture Morrison.
"AJ is a young lad who still has plenty to learn," said Bruce.
"He has blistering pace, he can score goals and I don't want to lose him.
"He keeps being mentioned in the Morrison deal but it's none of my doing."
The Blues chief has already stepped up his efforts to land Polish international Emanuel Olisadebe from Panathinaikos and is aiming to wrap up that swoop by the start of next week.
