Vittek handed Blues trial

BIRMINGHAM CITY are understood to have handed a trial to Slovakian international Robert Vittek.

The 20-year-old striker is currently with Slovan Bratislava, but is now ready to move to England.

Slovan have reportedly given Vittek permission to travel to St Andrews and undergo a training spell with Steve Bruce's outfit.

Vittek is valued at around £2 million by his club and could move to Birmingham on loan with a view to a permanent transfer - should he impress.

Blues boss Steve Bruce has already been the busiest Premiership manager during the transfer window, already sealing four deals for Christophe Dugarry, Ferdinand Coly, Stephen Clemence and Jamie Clapham, and he could very well add to those new faces before the end of January.

Meanwhile, The Blues are set to release midfielder Darryl Powell from St. Andrews when his short-term contract ends at the weekend.

The former Derby County captain has been with the side since last September, having made 14 appearances for Bruce's side with eight of those being as a substitute.
